Where the Titanic sank?

A clear example of this type of historical events is the sinking of the Titanic in the month of April 1912. Its route and the process that caused this tragedy continues to be the subject of study and analysis by many experts, since although it was always indicated that the collision with the iceberg caused the collapse, it is likely that other factors that have been discovered in recent years can better explain the fact that such a ship sank so quickly.

Where the Titanic sank

To understand how and where this fateful event occurred, it is essential to know the route that the Titanic had scheduled and how far it came, in addition to its characteristics.

The construction and commissioning of this ship was an event at the beginning of the 20th century. It was announced that the Titanic was practically indestructible, by the manner in which it had been built and the materials used for it. The shipping company White Star Line was the owner and was part of the Olympic fleet.

It was, without any doubt, a great advance for the time and logically a large number of people, including families and very wealthy characters, wanted to be part of this milestone in history and be part of the passengers of the first trip of this ship. It should be noted that the Titanic not only stood out for its size and materials, but also for the great luxuries it housed inside. Since it would receive rich and famous people, services such as swimming pool, sauna, gym and restaurants were incorporated with the best foods of the time, all decorated in a very luxurious way. For example, the first class cabins were decorated based on the Palace of Versailles.

The Titanic began its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912, and did so in Southampton, England. Before embarking on its route through the Atlantic Ocean to its final destination, New York, the ship called at two European cities: Cherbourg in France and Queenstown in Ireland. After both stops, the number of people inside the Titanic, totaling both passengers and crew, was almost 2,230.

After these two stops in Europe, the Titanic set sail for New York across the Atlantic Ocean. They had spent four days traveling when the ship’s crew began receiving messages from other ships warning of the presence of icebergs in the North Atlantic area.

Despite these warnings, at 23:40 hours on April 14, 1912, and some 600 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, the Titanic hit an iceberg. It was night and visibility was not good (even some experts say that there were mirages due to temperature differences between the Atlantic water currents) and when the iceberg was sighted, it was impossible to perform the necessary maneuvers to avoid it.

Although the crash was strong and deep, the passengers did not feel it. That’s why they had to be notified twenty minutes after it was produced by the crew. At 00:05 hours on April 15, 1912, the lifeboats began to unfold on the deck of the Titanic to save all possible people.

The rescue of the Titanic

The Titanic complied with all the security measures required by law, but is considered an indestructible vessel, only the lifeboats required were minimally required, that is, twenty. Its capacity only ensured the salvation of half of the passengers. Therefore, it was requested that the first to fill them were women, children and the elderly. Those who could not get into the boats received life jackets, but due to the cold temperatures of the North Atlantic, they could not survive.

Finally, only saved 704 people from the Titanic. They were picked up by the ship Carpathia, which came from New York and was diverted to rescue them. Meanwhile, in less than three hours, the Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean.

Many experts have pointed out over the years that it is quite possible that both the condition of the hull rivets, of poor quality in some of their areas, and the possibility of a fire in the area of the boilers before leaving from England that weakened that part of the hull, helped the sinking was so fast and there was no time to rescue all the people who traveled on the Titanic.
