Below is an example of the type of footage that we would find on a camera survey and the relevant information in relation to the finding.
Pipe Material and Age
For older Leicester homes, often found in older properties, there will be older drainage pipes made of clay or pitch-fibre. These can be seen clearly on a camera survey and, over time, can develop hairline cracks in clay pipes or even deform into an oval shape in pitch-fibre pipes. Both of these types of pipes are nearing the end of their life and would need to be checked and possibly replaced.
Joint Displacement
Displaced joints are one of the major problems with older drain pipes. These joints can move over time due to ground settlement or roots growing into the joint. As the joint opens, ground water can enter the pipe and a fine soil known as silt can be washed into the pipe. Over time this can cause a blockage to form in the pipe and, eventually, a sink hole to appear in the ground above the blockage.
Root Ingress For more on this, take a look at www.wilkinson-env.co.uk/drainage-services-cctv-surveys-midlands/cctv-drain-surveys/leicester.
Evidence of root ingress on your pipes can be identified through the use of drain cameras. Such images enable us to establish exactly which joints or cracks in your pipes that the roots of trees have infiltrated to form a large mass of fibres. It is recommended that a CCTV Drain Survey Leicester is undertaken, when mature trees are situated near a drain, as the roots can cause a blockage of near zero flow before any signs of surface damage occur.
Sediment and Grease Build-Up
Blockages caused by sediment or grease in the pipes can cause the water to back up when it rains heavily. The camera can provide evidence of the extent of the blockage and so the correct jetter can be used to clear the blockage.
Evidence of Previous Repairs
Sometimes where previous repairs have been attempted patch liners, incorrect size pipes and poor quality connections can be found. A patch liner is a thin, rolled up layer of material that is glued to the inside of a cracked pipe in an attempt to repair it. uk/ukpga/1991/57/contents){rel=”nofollow”}. uk/drainage-services-cctv-surveys-midlands/cctv-drain-surveys/leicester/).
Each of the findings that a drain inspection in the Leicester area uncovers can be captured on film by the drain camera and once an investigation has been conducted, a copy of the footage can be given to you for future reference should any other problems arise.
